Games involving adding and subtracting fractions. There are three Froggy Fractions games: an individual game against the clock and two 2-player races.
The Froggy Fractions demo is designed to be used on a whiteboard and enables the teacher to show how the game is played as well as providing an opportunity for pupils to practise adding and subtracting fractions.

Play the one-player Froggy Fractions game and try to beat the fastest time. When you have moved all the frogs across the river your time will be displayed and if you are fast enough you will be invited to enter your name and school so that you can appear in Froggy Fractions Fastest Five.

First example

Second example

The aim is to move all the frogs across to the other side of the river.. Move the frogs forward or backward so that the total distance travelled equals the target fraction.

In the first example on the left two frogs have been moved forward. An outline is left behind to show where a frog started.
The total move is 1/4 + 1/12 = 3/12 + 1/12 = 4/12 = 1/3

If the target fraction is 7/8 then one frog could be moved forward 1/2 and another forward 3/8.

If the target is 3/8 then one frog could go forward 1/2, another could be moved back 1/8. ie 1/2 - 1/8 = 4/8 - 1/8 = 3/8.

In the second example on the left one frog has been moved forward and the other moved backward. An outline is left behind to show where the frogs started.
The total move is 2/9 + 1/12 = 8/36 + 3/36 = 11/36

$Use these buttons to select the fractions used.$

$Use thes buttons to say 'OK' or to pass on to another fraction.$

First decide which fractions you want to use. Then click on the 'go' button.

In this example the target is 7/8. Move one or more frogs the required distance and then click the 'OK?' button. If your moves are correct then the next target fraction will be generated. If you are wrong then your error will be worked out, so try again.
If you don't think you can move the target distance then click the 'pass' button.
